March 2012

Lots of hopes for a big fish, springtime is usually a sure bet. Come enjoy a float trip for the spawning rainbows on both tail waters. The weather is nice and the time is now to dust off those waders and come fish. I will be throwing alot of junk (streamers) at these big boys in hopes to land some pigs! With spring time big bugs like prince nymphs are fun and easy to fish as well and we will be looking for the caddis. The fish will be here and hungry.

February 2012

Rainy days and big water abound call us for a float trip today, with the high water we have been sticking in the drift boat. The unseasonably warm weather so far has made for some excellent days on both tailwaters.

Looking to hook that winter pig? Why not give us a call today bring your streamer rod and let us show you where they are at. Right Now is the time to target and catch BIG Rainbows (20+ inches is not uncommon with a 26 incher hooked and landed on 2/1) on the Nolichucky!

December/January 2012

New year brings new weather, this time last year we were all inside in East TN drinking coffee and tying flies. Not so far this winter, the mild weather has been tolerable with even a few short sleeve days out on the water. Despite the Soulth Holston spawning areas being closed till the end of next month the fishing beside those areas has been hot. I watched spawning brown trout chasing out rainbows off their nest the other day for hours the river almost seemed alive in these areas where there are still spawning fish. Parachute Adams has been my go to about a size 18 or if you feel lucky tie on a sulphur I have still been hooking a few on this pattern with the warmer weather. The fish have been very fat overall I think both the rainbow and browns are gorging on the eggs and small fry they can pick up all along the river.

November 2011

With a few frosty starts this month has already been producing excellent topwater action on both tail waters. starting November 20th we will be offerring a winter float trip special. Remember gift certificates make great stocking stuffers and happy fishermen!

October 2011

Fall weather is some of the most exciting time in east TN. With the colors of the leaves and brown trout spawning the South Holston starts to produce some of its big boys....blue winged olives are showing up on both tailwaters and streamer fishing is an exciting way to entice the big fish on the move.

September 2011
With things cooling off I am expecting an early spawn this year. Already the brown trout are schooling up and getting their colors. Of course this month is always weather dependent, but it should be nothing less than awesome fishing! The grasshopper will fish till the first frost and with cooler nights we can start to expect bigger fish on the move as well. Look at your calender now, and take that well deserved day off for some of the finest trout fishing on the east coast.

April 2011
Many fish on dry fly all day long, as for numbers, you cant go wrong with a float trip down the Watauga right now! My best fish have been caught on an cdc caddis swung through fast water, though the big fish have been eating a caddis emerger or nymph pattern. Let us show you the best dry fly fishing in the southeast! Now is the best time to plan a trip to catch the Spring hatches, along with caddis we have caught many fish on the cranefly and hendrickson patterns. Looks as if the rapid fire weather pattern is finally going to break book your trip now and come catch em!

May 2011
Quite possibly one of the best months to fish in Tennessee! Along with the dry fly hatches on the Watauga and South Holston for trout many people have never experienced the strong fight of a smallmouth bass on the fly. Popping bugs will come into play this month with the warmer weather, a river float for smallmouth is non stop action on top, making for a visual experience as well as the hardest fighting fish on a fly rod anywhere! June 2011
Looking forward to a dry fly and nymph fishing explosion! The summer tailwaters offer cool water trout conditions and hatches that rival any where else in the country, before Colorado and Montana can produce come set the hook in fly fishing paradise right here in East Tennessee. Lots of sulphur hatches!

July 2011
Summer is here, and with temperatures rising there is no better place to be than on the river. The rains will hopefully be bringing the float fishing action back to the South Holston River high lake levels will demand more water released and get them working overtime to fix the generator. Wade fishing still promises to be nothing short of explosive top water action on dries for this river we have been having alot of fun with the 280 cfs flows making normal pools that normally have no water movement flowing and fishable. Fishing river smallmouth is at its prime right now with all the big boys and girls getting fat on crayfish to damselflies, these float trips can be a blast! Trout will be interested on top water flies like beetles and grashoppers this month on the Watauga as well, its an exciting time of year.

August 2011

Two words: Sulphur Hatch! Come see what the buzz is all about, the TVA finally got the generator problem fixed on the South Holston. Now is the time to float for some of the best dry fly fishing on the east coast. We are having afternoon float fishing action all on top water and as always you can find numerous pods of wild brown trout keying in on the main course. If you've never fished this hatch it is definitly something to experience, the hatch will likely stay pretty strong throughout the month and into September. Hope to see you all at the South Holston Fly Fishing Festival as well.

I just wanted to thank you for the great couple of days on the water. As usual, I had a great time and loved getting hooked up with some really nice fish. I love the Northeast TN area – every time I come back it seems the fishing just gets better. Count on me visiting next spring and be sure you’ve got those hot spots scouted out for us again!

Silver Bow Anglers,
Thank you for taking my two sons and me on a fishing trip last week. We had such a good time and it’s all they can talk about. I really appreciate the extra time you spent with both of them. I’ll send pictures of us fishing this winter. Remember you have an open invitation to join us on the lake. Have a good summer.
